Hi all! Hope this finds you healthy and happy.
This past month has been a very busy one for Cover Your Bum cloth diaper bank. I am excited to announce we are currently helping six families. We have trained our distribution site on how to give out the diapers so I no longer have to have a traveling diaper bank in the back of my SUV, meeting moms in parking lots.
We were interviewed by a local news station about modern cloth diapers and after it aired we were inundated with new fans on Facebook and emails asking for more information about not just cloth diapers but also about our diaper bank!
It truly was a great past few weeks.
I have of course been crazy busy with the diaper bank, work and of course kids. We are currently moving to a new house! Yay and yikes at the same time. Moving 7 people and 2 dogs after living in one place for the past 7 years is daunting! I am at the point if I haven’t seen or used it in the past 7 years, I really don’t think it will make the move.
I have been thinking long and hard about going back to school this next fall. I am so confused, is 2013 the year I get off my butt and get it done or I just setting myself up for failure? I am happy with my job and enjoy what I do, but I do feel as if I have hit a wall. Going up isn’t a bad thing, but it does require leaving the comforts of sedition behind. Grrr, guess I will be deliberating that over the next few months.
Little man is growing like a weed and so are his siblings respectively. Hard to believe he was only four months old last year at this time. He has grown into his personality and is letting us know he has his own ideas on what he should be allowed to do. 🙂 Gates are no longer his friend and the crib is headed for its lowest setting and I am not sure if that will keep him in!
So very blessed we are! I just wanted to wish all a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year. I hope it brings your family good health and happiness.
So I am sure you all have noticed I have not been very busy on here lately. I feel bad to be neglecting the blog. I really haven’t been that busy, I just have been distracted. I guess I could update you on my life lately.
Work of course has kept my busy, but that is nothing new really. I have been training two new peer counselors and I have been so grateful of their wonderful desire to learn and do as much as they can. In fact I think I have only cleaned 2 breast pumps since they both started in early August. Mama Mo (this is what she calls herself! so funny) and my friend Heather are a great addition to our breastfeeding staff and I couldn’t be happier to have them on our team (Boob squad)! We had an amazing World Breastfeeding Week celebration and put on a wonderful physician/nurse conference. Dr Nancy Wight was a great asset to our community of breastfeeding support and really made the local hospitals become more accountable for why neither one of them are Baby Friendly!
We are going to our state WIC conference in late October and I am looking forward to that 3 day event. I will be taking my little man as I do not want to stress him or daddy out at night. And I am pretty sure I would have withdrawals myself! Thanks to my wonderful Mom in Law as she is willing to watch her during the day. They live close to where the conference is so it will be easy and fun for all involved.
The kids have started back to school and so far are managing well. The oldest is a Senior and my daughter is a Freshman. They both go to the same high school, and yes I know people that have kids going to different high schools. Of course my daughter and her bff still find a way to ride to and from school together even though her brother drives to school everyday. We have set up the senior pictures, I know so late huh? He took the school pictures for the yearbook and the rest are for mom! He is going to be taking his ACT’s soon and is active in many clubs and work as well. I am proud of his hard work.
My daughter has started joining many clubs and new program at the school that prepares them for college and they are able to earn college credit. She is starting to look for volunteer places and will be doing that soon. She has also started her own blog. I am very proud of her.
The little boys are doing well. Even though J & J have now had the same teachers since the littlest J started school, it is working in our favor so far. All the teachers are learning that they are two completely different beasts! 🙂 Big J wants to play basketball this winter so that will be a new challenge of getting him to and from those events. Little J just likes playing video games and for the most part as long as they are apart from each other all is pleasant in our family.
Baby boy is now one and no longer trying to walk, but RUNNING everywhere! He loves playing outside and his brothers take turns playing with him out there, most days! He has developed the stubborn personality that is our family. He is still the monkey of the house and the little King of everything. We have installed gates preventing him to get into certain rooms in the house and he has expressed his dislike of that!!!
He is breaking his one year molar teeth and that is not fun for mom or baby! He is up all night and not a happy camper about them at all. We have two through and working on the other two. 😦 Hope it is over soon.
This is moving along, but we are still working on the funding. We have gotten approval for our wholesale account with Cottonbabies so this means we can get the Econobums at the wholesale price to share with our clients. We have two events we are having a booth at to promote our diaper bank. The first one is for child care providers. We are hoping to educate them on how easy it is to use cloth diapers. We are also going to a women in business event at the end of the month. We are also going to be selling bracelets as a fund raiser. We are looking to add donation cans to local stores, but we might have to wait until the first of the year as many places are starting their winter food bank donations. I am hoping to do a cloth diaper drive in the coming months, but I know that is going to be a huge undertaking and I am putting that off some for after the new year. We did have a a donation of a logo for our bank. What do you think? We love how it has the diaper pin!
Well I am thinking I will need to take some classes this spring. I need to retake one class and add another so I can apply for nursing school. I know it needs to happen to advance in my career, but I am really not looking forward to it. I am not really wanting to be a nurse at say a hospital or something, I just want to be able to work at an office or hospital as an IBCLC. I have worked hard for that title and I want to continue to help moms and babies. I would love to open a Lactation center that helps all moms and not be affiliated with just one or the other hospital. I have a few people that are also interested in starting one, they do include a few NP’s and a couple Dr’s in the area. I am hoping this is something that can be started withing the next year. And of course cloth diapers!!!
I have also been working on eating healthier and exercising more. So please help me with support and encouragement there! Hoping to lose some baby fat that is just not wanting to come off and I am pretty sure the breastfeeding diet has run its course! 🙂
Well there is my little update. I would love to know what topics you would like me to blog on. Tell me some suggestions and I will work on them. Thanks for following me!
You can guess what this post is about. 🙂 Yes Diapers, diapers and more diapers. As you have read my friend and I have started a cloth diaper bank called Cover Your Bum cloth diaper bank. We went to a diaper bank event for the first diaper bank in our area! We are so excited about starting this and little did we know it would be happening so soon. We have many families that are interested in our bank and many more wanting to help out. I had a client call me today and asked if she could donate some of her pocket diapers to our diaper bank, since she has decided that she wants to use prefolds and covers with her newest baby due in January. I was so happy to know that so many moms out there are interested in helping other moms out. I have learned that the cloth diaper family is large and always willing to add to it!
Diapers, Diapers and More Diapers
We have been so fortunate to have a wonderful company that has donated diapers to our bank and is willing to sell us more at a wholesale cost. Thanks to Glow Bug Cloth Diapers! Sarah and Neta have been a wonderful asset to our diaper bank and are excited to announce that they are also forming a diaper bank in their area! They have been asked to join together with a Canadian organization called Cloth for a Cause and are now running the local chapter. It is amazing how fast things are taking off for both parties involved! Go ladies!
This was waiting on my couch when I got home the day of our diaper drive! I was so excited to display Glow Bug amazing diapers I forgot to open it before I left the house! Two whole packages! 24 diapers, 48 inserts and 2 wet bags! This can easily help at least 1-2 families depending on their diapering need! Thank you again ladies! When I displayed the diapers at the diaper drive all the ladies at the event were so excited to see what a modern cloth diaper consists of! They all kept asking me what I put over it to prevent leaks and I had to keep telling them, “Your looking at it! The PUL that is used now is so much better than the plastic pants of the old days!” I had so many wanting to buy them for their grand-babies. I was happy to refer them to Glow Bug, but told them these were for the bank. I am hoping that the excitement that they had also went to their pocket books and made donations to the diaper bank!
I have also been in contact with Cottonbabies of St. Louis MO to see if we can purchase their Econobum packages at the wholesale price to add them to our diaper bank. We are wanting to offer both types of diapers to our clients. I talked with the wholesale division and was told that this was a little different then what they normally do for wholesale. Normally it is for just retail purchases and brick and mortar stores as well. After I explained about our diaper bank and that we are not looking to sell the diapers, but to offer them as an option for our clients in need, I was informed that they are having a big board meeting in the near future and they will let us know if they are able to help. Even if they are not, the Econobum packages are such a great deal, 12 prefolds, 3 covers and a wet bag for $49 that we are still going to purchase them and take advantage of any sales that they might have later this year!
It’s all coming together!
It won’t be long before Lisa and I are prepping the prefolds and pockets, making the loan packages and teaching the Care of Cloth classes to volunteers and families. We have so many families that are waiting so patiently for our diaper bank to kick off! If you are interested in helping our cloth diaper bank, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or find us on Facebook at Cover Your Bum Cloth Diaper bank. We are happy to take donations of diapers, offering your company diapers at a wholesale price or financial support.
Thanks again for all your support of our wonderful bank!
I had the most amazing day yesterday and I thought this would be a great place to share my excitement!
My friend Lisa and I were invited to be part of the Ride4diapers.org welcoming event yesterday. Newborns in Need in Springfield has launched their new diaper bank and they have received funding to help our cloth diaper bank get started as well!
We were asked to talk at the event about the needs and wants of many new parents to learn about cloth diapers. Many families are very interested in cloth diapering their children, but the start-up costs can be very overwhelming especially to a family in financial need. We are working with a local food pantry to help offer assistance to needy families. They will be housing the diapers at their warehouse. We will be training their staff on the proper care of cloth diapers and offering monthly trainings to families.
The point of our cloth diaper bank is not to give you cloth diapers for the babies full diapering life, but to be your “friend” that loans you the diapers for a few months until you are able to purchase your own diapers. We have different options for different needs. As much as I would love to cloth diaper all of Springfield, I know that isn’t possible for all families. We just want to be able to help families provide for their children.
After I did my talk the lady news person that was doing the talk there said she wanted to talk with me more about doing cloth diapers for her daughter (who will be one in a few days) and she also wanted to do a news segment on cloth diapers. WOW! I really didn’t think I was that convincing about cloth diapers. Pretty cool. So watch for a future posting about that! Maybe the news link if it goes online!!
If you are interesting in learning or helping out our cloth diaper bank, check us out on Facebook at Cover Your Bum Cloth Diaper Bank or you can email us at email@example.com We would love to have your support!
I also wanted to thank some of our wonderful donors, Glow Bug Cloth Diapers and a wonderful lady that jsut showed up at the event and gave us homemade covers and AIO small diapers, Sazzy Baby Assets and of course Newborns in Need and Crosslines for support our vision!
